CONTEMPLATIVE EXPERIENCE
Stories of Women's Journeys to God

Here we will explore the essential characteristics of the lived experience of contemporary contemplative women. Six women formed within the western Christian monastic tradition were the research participants. Their average age was 56 and their average professed commitment to religious life--in a monastery, a hermitage, or a house of prayer--was 33 years. Each was asked to describe her perception and experience of God.

We will share these stories, their descriptions of spiritual experience and how these are placed within the context of their personal histories. Their thoughts, images, dreams, language, and art encompass the richness, depth and beauty, as well as the challenge, of modern contemplative life. Their considerations and our responses will enrich us all.

Led by Mary Killeen Lyons, Ph.D.
Mary Killeen Lyons is a psychotherapist in private practice in Santa Rosa and the mother of four grown daughters. She has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and an M.A. degree in Theology and Religious Education.

Cost: $36. Please make reservations.
