PAYING ATTENTION TO SMALL BEAUTIES
A poetry writing workshop for beginners

In her poem "Little Things" Sharon Olds says,
"I am doing something I learned early to do, I am
paying attention to small beauties,
whatever I have--as if it were our duty to
find things to love, to bind ourselves to this world."

In this beginner's poetry writing workshop we will focus on those moments in our lives which are small beauties for us. Those experiences, memories, dreams, loves, and losses which when we attend to them become avenues of growth and transformation. We will study some contemporary poets, and the poetic elements that they employ: imagery, metaphor, music, line break, syntax, etc., to see how these behaviors contribute to the form and meaning of the poem. We will use their work to inform and inspire our own.

Led by Lynn Trombetta
Lynn Trombetta holds two teaching credentials and a B.A. Degree in English. Her work has appeared in poetry journals across the country, including Atlanta Review, The Sun, CALYX, Poets On and many others. About her work she says, "Practicing patience and steadfastness before the blank page is hard work, but it is work which offers astonishments and truths, and always guidance in the difficult task of being human."

Cost: $72 plus $10 materials fee. Please make reservations. Class limited to 10 people.
